Field trials conducted in Wenchang, Hainan, have demonstrated that PBST fully biodegradable mulch film achieves more than 6% yield increase compared to conventional PE mulch film in sweet potato cultivation. The PBST fully biodegradable mulch film, developed through independent research by Sinopec's full industry chain, exhibits superior UV resistance and water vapor barrier performance while completely degrading into harmless substances including water, carbon dioxide, and mineralized compounds. Following the commissioning of the world's first 60,000-ton/year PBST industrial production facility in Hainan, the product has been continuously supplying agricultural green transformation initiatives nationwide with a replicable solution. In the comparative field trial conducted in May 2026, plots using PBST biodegradable mulch film produced over 952 kg per mu of commercial sweet potatoes, while control plots using conventional PE film produced 894 kg per mu, representing a yield increase exceeding 6% with tangible economic benefits. An expert panel on-site evaluated soil conditions, crop growth, and degradation performance, concluding that PBST mulch film cultivation technology is well-adapted to the coastal sandy soil characteristics and sweet potato cultivation environment of Wenchang, delivering multiple values including stable yield, quality improvement, cost reduction, income enhancement, and ecological sustainability
